Kamilah Usoro

Playgroup Facilitator

Kamilah knew from an early age that she was destined to teach (and she has been teaching as long as she can remember!). She graduated from Howard University with a Bachelor’s Degree in English and a Minor in Elementary Education. After teaching both elementary and high school, Kamilah decided to travel across the country to explore other avenues of education and felt there was a need for quality instruction in Oakland. She worked as a tutor, coordinator, and education director for Sylvan Learning Center and as a pre-k playgroup director for the city of Oakland. Kamilah is a certified site supervisor and is currently completing her certification as a program director.

Kamilah can be found spending time with her son at kid-friendly events and festivals. If you see her with a pen and paper, it is because her brain feels like the Fourth of July: it’s exploding with creative ideas for learning through play and building positive communities through BANANAS!
