BANANAS mission is to partner with families and child care providers to raise happy, confident children. We offer child care referrals and resources to families with young children and child care professionals in the Northern Alameda County cities of Oakland, Berkeley, Albany, Piedmont, Emeryville, and Alameda. If you need assistance with paying for child care, call us to see if you qualify for a subsidy program.
We welcome families and child care providers to sign up for our parent education classes, professional development trainings, and playgroups held here at BANANAS and out in the community. Sign up for sessions under Workshops & Trainings.

The California ECE Workforce Registry is a web-based system designed to track and promote the employment, training, and educational accomplishments of the early care and education (ECE) teachers and providers. The Registry will provide the first comprehensive look at the early childhood workforce in California. In this workshop, we will review the registration process, benefits of the registry, and the importance of being registered. This information will help researchers, policymakers, and funders better understand the educational, professional development and employment needs of early care and education providers and teachers. Event Details

Event Details
Are you thinking of opening your own family child care program? If so, this free event is just for you! We’ll discuss what it takes to open a licensed family child care business in your home and talk about how to decide whether this is the right choice for you and your family. Running an in-home child care program involves a background check, a home inspection, an application to Community Care Licensing, and a commitment to providing meaningful, nurturing curriculum to young children. If you are interested in learning about child development, how to set up a safe environment for children, how to market your child care program, and how to build strong relationships with parents, then join us for this informative workshop. BANANAS is here to offer support at every step. We will also discuss the California Child Care Initiative Project (CCIP), which is a state-funded project intended to increase infant/toddler child care slots and improve quality care for children. This is a great chance to meet with an expert who can answer your questions and offer information to get you started.
Note: To get a family child care license, you have to go to a Community Care Licensing (CCL) orientation. Be sure to pre-register and pre-pay the $25 fee to attend by calling CCL at 510-622-2602 or going to www.ccld.ca.gov

This is an ongoing support group that meets every other month for any parent from the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and/or Queer community whose child is enrolled in child care or an early care and education program or for parents who are considering enrolling their child into a program. We often have a unique relationship with our child care providers. We may be out and proud or struggling with how to be ourselves with the providers and families at the child care program. Please join us for the group and gain personal support, discuss how to create inclusive child care environments, learn how to advocate for yourself and your family, receive practical tools for how to integrate into program environments, and most importantly how you support yourself! This group is facilitated by Shawn Bryant and Rainbow Markell, both from the LGBTQ early childhood community.

This is a series designed to empower all fathers. Offering personal tools that help to define or redefine one’s sense of identity and purpose and establish guiding principles for fatherhood, this series will help you to navigate relationships and social norms that may hinder effective parenting. Fathers will learn that everything we need to know about being a great dad is, and always has been, inside us. All we have to do is find it and share it with our children and make their future bright and promising. Facilitator Gaylon Logan, Jr. has over 20 years of experience working with boys and men of color and he is a father, grandfather, and CEO of the nonprofit Village-Connect.

Event Details
The ASQ:SE-2 is a questionnaire and companion tool to the ASQ-3 that parents can use to help identify concerns about their child’s development. Designed for children five years old and under, the questionnaire focuses on social-emotional development. In this workshop, providers will learn how to use this vital tool and interpret the results. We will also discuss how to respectfully and effectively talk to parents about children’s development. To ensure that we are setting up all children for success, it’s important to be aware of developmental concerns as soon as possible. Once a concern is recognized, providers and parents can work together to support children’s individual growth. We hope to see you at this informative session! NOTE: In order to attend this ASQ:SE-2 session, you must have previously attended an ASQ-3 session.
