Trauma 101: Understanding Trauma in Early Childhood
The early years are a critical time for brain development, emotional growth, and forming a sense of safety in the world. Trauma 101 is an introductory workshop focused on how trauma and chronic stress affect infants and young children, and how caregivers can support healthy development through trauma-informed care.
This workshop explores common sources of early childhood trauma, how trauma can show up in young children’s behavior, play, sleep, and attachment, and why challenging behaviors are often signs of unmet needs. Participants will learn how trauma impacts the developing brain and nervous system, and gain practical strategies for creating safe, predictable, and nurturing environments.
Designed for parents, early childhood educators, childcare providers, and family-serving professionals, this session offers compassionate, developmentally appropriate tools to support regulation, build secure relationships, and promote resilience in young children.
